Highlights of the meeting include:

  • Board members participated in a workshop on the effective use of special committees - The Board recently created two new Board committees focused on the School Resource Officer (SRO) middle school pilot program and Special Education. To assist the Board in considering how best to define the membership, scope and operations of each committee, Board members participated in a workshop led by Dr. Dee Molinare, Field Services Director from the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) joined by the District's legal counsel. The discussion will continue at the August 27, 2018 regular meeting.
  • Board considers policy updates - As part of its ongoing updates, the Board reviewed and discussed proposed changes to its policy manual provided through the Policy Reference Education Subscription Service (PRESS), and changes to a policy on community use of facilities. The policies will be returned for second reading and approval at the August 27 meeting. The PRESS policies had been reviewed previously by an internal D64 committee and the Board Policy Committee.
  • Hiring continues for the new school year - The Board approved a lengthy personnel report to prepare for the opening of school.
