May 21 new date for 3rd Grade Birdhouses

All of the third graders in District 64 -- almost 500 of them -- are busy completing a project-in-common.  They have glued, hammered and nailed together birdhouses, then personalized them with paints.  A reception and exhibit will be held on Wednesday, May 21 from 4-5:00 p.m. at Hodges Park.  Rain location:  Emerson Middle School. 



School in Session June 5

RECORDS/PLANNING DAY
The 2007-08 school calendar allowed for a records/planning day on June 5, 2008, if sufficient emergency days remained.  Because three weather-related emergency days were used, and one records/planning day in March was used, school will be in session Thursday, June 5.




Carpenter Principal Promoted

New Model for Meeting Student Needs

Board acts on 2008-09 staffing

The District 64 Board of Education at its meeting on April 7 took action on staffing recommendations for 2008-09.  Affirming the importance of continuing to improve student achievement while maintaining fiscal responsibility, the Board restored several teaching and administrative positions cut previously and approved the limited addition of new staff for 2008-09.  (Full text of news release. )

Elementary Lunch Program Report

The Elementary Lunch Program Review Committee delivered its final report to the Board on April 7, and recommended a series of improvements in communications, indoor recess, program fees, staffing, and outdoor and indoor facilities.  (Full text of release)

Summer "Worlds of Wonder"

School District 64 "Worlds of Wonder" Offers Summer Fun and Learning 

Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 invites children completing grades K-7 to explore “Worlds of Wonder” this summer. The morning program offers an extensive array of fun and stimulating challenges, such as arts, crafts, cookery, movie-making, sports, music, and theatre. Skill-building classes in reading, language arts and math also are offered; Spanish and French review classes have been added for the first time this year.


“Worlds of Wonder” for students completing grades K-3 will be held at Franklin School, while students completing grades 4-7 will attend Emerson Middle School. Two, three-week sessions are offered: Tuesday, June 10 – Friday, June 27 and Monday, June 30 – Friday, July 18 (no class on July 4). Students may register for up to two 90-minute classes each morning. District 64 offers convenient bus service for either class. Children also can link up with local day camps on a shuttle service offered through the Park Ridge Recreation & Park District.


Course brochures will be available beginning Friday, February 15 from the District 64 office, local schools or on the District 64 Web site: www.d64.org. Registration begins on Monday, March 3. Classes are open to all students and registrations are processed on a first come first served basis; however, priority will be given to children who reside in District 64 and enroll on or before April 18.
