Middle school students raise funds for wells in Africa

Lincoln Middle School students were rewarded recently with a wonderful thank you photograph (below) and letter for their 2017 Water Walk fundraiser.

The well -- the 330th drilled by the Water for South Sudan non-profit -- is bringing fresh, clean water and a new future to the people of Pan-Malou in South Sudan, according to the message. Last year's Team 7-2 students read the book, A Long Walk to Water, and hiked to and from the Forest Preserve to pump water, simulating what many children in underdeveloped countries must do daily. They raised about $6,000 for the well.

In late May, 7th grade Bantha and Flamingo teams at Emerson Middle School conducted an H2O for Life water walk for the Mulanga Primary School in Kenya, raising almost $6,800 for a well.
