Master Facilities Plan

Starting in 2023, District 64 Administrators and our archeticts started reviewing our Master Facilities Plan to best serve our students and put the buildings and facilties in the best spot for the next 100 years. We are working with staff across the District gathering feedback and planning what a new Master Facilities Plan will look like, starting with the middle schools and then the elementary schools.

The first contract for Phase 1A at Lincoln Middle School was approved at the April 18th Board Meeting. You can read more about what phase one entails in this January 25th Board Meeting recap. The $10 million worth of bonds sold earlier this year will pay for this work.

  • Phase 1 at Lincoln is a different project than the possible $98.3 million bond measure on which we have been gathering community input regarding the District's critical safety and facility needs. You can find more information on the possible bond referendum at www.d64.org/2024proposal.
  • The approved contract with Midwest Mechanical was for $1,677,864. This initial contract covers much of the design work for the next 14 months and pre-purchases of some mechanical equipment.

The District Administration presented an updated and refreshed Master Facilities Plan at the March 6th Special Board of Education Meeting. After mindful consideration, the admin team removed several items that significantly reduced the estimated cost. The Board agreed that the items presented will go to the Community Task Force for further discussion and vetting. At this point, the plans for each school continue to be very fluid as we research more, gather data, and have important conversations. The plans are still in the beginning stages and will be updated frequently.

The conversations about the Master Facilities Plan continued at the February 22, 2024 Board Meeting. These plans represent the first attempt at looking at what it would take to have world-class facilities in every building. The plans presented to the Board are preliminary, and as we continue to gather data, the plans will undergo many changes. The plans cover every school and represent a big picture to encompass all of the wants and needs, but as we continue to have conversations and understand what we want to do, we will update and alter the plan.

A Master Facilities Plan Update centered around Lincoln and Emerson Middle Schools was presented to the Board on January 25th, 2024. The Board voted to move forward with "Approach 3" and use bonds to pay for Phase 1 at Lincoln. The intitial phase has an estimated cost of $8.5 million - $10.5 million.

An updated five-year facilities plan was presented to the Board at the June 15th, 2023 Board Meeting. The updated plan went over the highest priorities for each school and an estimated cost.
