News for the Week of Aug. 29, 2016

Aug. 29, 2016

Dear Franklin Families:

We had a busy full week at Franklin this week! The children are settling into the daily routine of being back at school. On Monday night we held our Parent Orientation Night. On Wednesday night I sent out an email blast with a hyperlink (for each teacher’s schedule) to sign up for our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences that will take place in October. If you were unable to attend Parent Orientation or unable to sign up for conferences please contact your child’s teacher.

Park Ridge- Niles School District 64 students in 2nd through 8th grade take the MAP test three times each year (fall, winter and spring). The MAP tests administered to students are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. MAP tests are administered on a computer and are unique in that they are un-timed, adaptive tests. While all students are asked the same number of questions, the difficulty level of questions adjusts based the number of questions answered correctly. This dynamic platform enables each student to take a test that is customized for his or her learning level. The data is used to appropriately tailor instruction for each student.

Below is our testing schedule for next week.

MAP TESTING SCHEDULE - 3rd - 5th grade - please make sure Chromebooks are charged each night and at school each day for testing

INFORMATION ITEMS:

Tonight is the PTA Back To School Picnic from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the Franklin playground. There are many activities planned for a fun family evening.

Please do NOT bring dogs on our school property.  We have students that are allergic or afraid of dogs. For the safety of all of our students we ask that dogs wait at home and not join you on your drop off and pick up of your children.

To ensure your child’s safety, please do NOT drop off students before 8:30 a.m. We do NOT have supervision for students prior to 8:30 a.m.  Students enter the building at 8:45 a.m. If it is raining or the temperature/ wind chill is below 10 degrees students will be allowed in the building at 8:30 a.m.

We will have our first School Wide Behavior Expectations Celebration this Wed. morning 8/31 at 8:50 a.m.  The Maine East HS marching band is coming to Franklin to kick off our school year and celebrate how well our students are doing at following our Franklin Rocks Expectations.   The plan is for the band to play for our students outside on the blacktop.  Parents are welcome to stay on our playground from 8:50-9:05 to listen to the band play.  Students will enter the building at 8:45 a.m. and then classroom teachers will bring the students back outside for our celebration.

I hope to see many of you tonight at our Back to School Picnic!

Best,

Dr. Kowalczyk
