Extended Day Kindergarten Program

We are excited to announce the expansion of the Extended Day Kindergarten Program!  Currently we have a few openings for the morning and afternoon programs.  If interested please call the school office at 847-318-5360.

Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin on April 22, 2019.  Prior to registering for the Extended Day Kindergarten program you must complete the pre-enrollment process for kindergarten by going to the District 64 website (www.d64.org) and uploading your residency documents.  Once your documents have been approved you will begin receiving communication from the home school, including a InfoSnap code where you can register for the EDK program.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Activities

A variety of enrichment and educational activities are provided.  Educational activities, related to social studies and science themes, help students learn through art, music, reading, math, and drama. Students also have daily opportunities to engage in indoor and outdoor play. The program is not an extension of District 64’s kindergarten curriculum.

Program Hours

  • Before School Care - 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. (students enrolled in the morning EDK program may sign up for this program if the parents need coverage before 8:45 a.m.)
  • Morning Extended Day Program - 9:00 - 12:15 (students will be bused to their home school after having lunch at Jefferson)
  • Afternoon Extended Day Program - 12:00 - 3:30 (students will be bused from their home school to Jefferson after their morning kindergarten class)

Lunch and Snack

Kindergarten children must bring their own lunch and snack, including a drink. The lunch period is supervised by the EDK staff.

Health Services

A Health Assistant is on site and is able to attend to routine first aid. If a child becomes seriously ill or requires more than first aid, a District 64 nurse will come over to Jefferson School to attend to the child.

Transportation

District buses transport the children mid-day to/from Jefferson School and their neighborhood elementary buildings. Transportation costs are included in program fees. Parents must personally come into Jefferson School to drop off their children for the morning program and pick up their children at the end of the afternoon program, except for those afternoon students who are registered for Beyond the Bell. Those students will ride a bus back to their neighborhood elementary school for the Beyond the Bell program.

Fees

The rates for the 2018 - 2019 school year are as follows: $24.00 per day for the morning or afternoon session. A minimum two-day per week registration is required. Before School Care at Jefferson, which is open from 7:00 AM until 8:45 AM, is $12.00 per morning.

Days of Operation

The Jefferson Extended Day Kindergarten Program follows the District 64 school calendar. The Extended Day Program will not operate on the following days: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Spring Break, Good Friday, Memorial Day, staff development days, and record days.
