D64 Spelling Bee champ advances to regional competition

District 64 congratulates Carpenter School fifth grader Charlie Warner, who is moving on to the 9th Regional ISC Scripps Spelling Bee Championship, which will be held on February 20, 2019 at McClure Junior High School in Western Springs.

Warner placed third in the North Cook suburban area bee held on February 12 at Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth, having earned the right to represent District 64 with his correct spelling of the word "hundredth" at the D64 Bee on February 1. Read about the D64 Bee here.

Only one other student has progressed this far in competition in recent years, according to organizer Meghan Keefer, D64 Language Arts curriculum specialist. In 2016, then Lincoln seventh grader Catherine Sernel similarly placed third before advancing to the regional event.
