Behavior change workshop on May 2 at Special Education Parent Group meeting

Teach, Don’t Punish” - Behavior Change in Children with Learning Differences is the focus of a workshop to be led by Alice Belgrade, an expert with over 25 years in the fields of behavior and education.

The workshop will be conducted on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Middle School (Learning Resource Center), 200 S. Lincoln, Park Ridge. (Please note that this workshop will not be videotaped). It is the final planned meeting for 2017-18 of the District's new Special Education Parent Group. Read more here.

The workshop will provide specific tools to promote cooperative behavior. Positive interventions will be outlined that reduce oppositional behavior while building your child’s self-esteem. At the end of this presentation, parents will be able to:

  • Identify the causes and motivation of misbehavior
  • Describe the behavioral effects of learning and developmental differences
  • Take away specific strategies to address refusals to follow directions, avoidance of schoolwork, meltdowns and “bad habits”
  • Understand how teaching can replace punishment in helping children be successful at home and school
