Middle school singers and musicians win honors at Music in the Parks Festival

District 64 middle school singers and musicians captured top honors for their performances at the recent Music in the Parks Festival competition at Vernon Hills High School. The Emerson Concert Band, Emerson Symphonic Band, Emerson Concert Orchestra 1, and the Emerson/Lincoln Honors Chorus all had outstanding performances.

Their honors include:

  • Emerson/Lincoln Honors Chorus received a "Superior" rating -- the highest rating a group can receive at the festival.
  • Emerson Concert Band and Emerson Symphonic Band both took home second place in their respective divisions with "Excellent" ratings.
  • Emerson Concert Orchestra 1 took home first place and won the best overall orchestra of the competition!

Following the performances, the students, teachers and chaperones spent the day at Great America. The groups then met for an exciting awards ceremony where the winners were revealed, and the schools received new "hardware" for their trophy cases.

Congratulations to all our students and to their music teachers: Eric Bachmann, Terry Broeker, Erica Faulhaber, Mike Kennedy, Tami Nardi, and Alex Teater.
