This Week in Room 135
June 3-6, 2013
Weekly Newsletter
*Last day is Thursday until 9:30! It has been such a busy year. I have enjoyed teaching this group of enthusiastic learners. Getting to know more Carpenter families has been a blessing as well. Every year I realize how great a school we are!
*I encourage every fourth grader to have a library card from the Park Ridge Public Library. Have a reluctant reader? Make it part of a summer routine because those things that get scheduled get done. Maybe in the evening before bed have a reading time. Perhaps a bi-weekly trip to the library and then dessert? :)
Reading
-The book groups are Time for Andrew, Magyk, and Tale of Despereaux. Students meet in their book groups to summarize, ask questions, make connections, and make predictions.
-Good readers read! Students will have time to read independently each day.
Language Arts (writing)
-We are finishing our rain forest e-books! Look for them to be shared with you. I'm excited for the first e-books ever coming out of Room 135!
Math
-Review
Social Studies
-Western state poster project that students will complete in groups of 2-3. Each group will research a state and plan a trip to that Western state! We're nearly ready for the posters...
Science & Health
-The rain forest animal reports are in writing and science units.
-Junior Geologist
-Students will perform the scratch, streak, and fizz tests on the rocks.
Our health topic is Use your Common Sense. There are a variety of safety topics in this section.
