Lunch Program
Elementary School Paid Lunch Supervision Program
| District 64 students in grades 1-5 are given the option of returning home for lunch or participating in a fee-based supervised program. Only students registered in the paid program may remain for lunch. Students returning from lunch at home are requested to return no earlier than 12:30 p.m. (12:10 p.m. on Wednesday).
Students remaining at school bring a lunch from home, and provide their own beverage in an unbreakable container -- no cans or glass bottles. Daily milk service also may be ordered. Students spend approximately half the lunch hour eating, and the remainder at supervised recess outdoors, weather permitting. Registration for the lunch program and milk service is conducted in the summer. Registration and payment may be done via the "Pay Student Fees" page of this Web site. |

Elementary Lunch Program Review Committee
District 64 formed a review committee to study the qualitative and quantitative measures of the lunch program since District 64 assumed responsibility for the parents' paid lunch program from a non-profit corporation at the start of the 2007-08 school year. Parents, teachers/school personnel and lunch program staff participated in a survey in early 2008.
- Survey findings and the committee's recommendations were presented to the Board of Education at the April 7, 2008 meeting. (PDF of report)
- A follow-up progress report was given to the Board at the June 30, 2008 meeting. (PDF of report)
Middle School Lunch Program
Students in grades 6-8 remain at school during their scheduled lunch period. Students who need to go home for lunch must bring a note from a parent to the homeroom teacher each time this need arises; the parent must pick up the student at the school office.
Students may bring their lunch from home and purchase beverages and a la carte items. Or, students may purchase a hot lunch. A monthly menu is available via a link from each school's website. A cashless debit system was introduced in 2011, which allows parents to pre-pay into an account for their child's use in buying lunch. The food service is operated by Arbor.
Students are expected to sit in assigned seats while eating, return dirty dishes and trays to the counter, and deposit paper and refuse in the recycling and waste containers provided before moving outdoors in an orderly fashion. Staff members supervise the lunch rooms. Students spend approximately half the lunch period eating, and the remainder at supervised recess outdoors, weather permitting. Students are expected to stay in designated areas of the grounds, and report to their next class upon reentry. Restrooms in gym hallways are available for use during lunch periods.
FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS, EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENT BEHAVIOR
ARE THE SAME DURING LUNCH AS THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL DAY.
