Connectedness Corner
One of the most common questions parents ask teachers is how can I help my child? What can I do at home?
This section will focus on providing answers to that very important question.
Look for future helpful ideas.
As always, thank you for your continued support.

Idea #4
Stay Involved
Although your child may act like they wish you would leave them alone, middle graders still need their parents around.
Why?
When parents get involved in learning, student achievement soars. Middle grade students score higher on tests, turn in better projects, and participate more in class if they know their parents care. Show your child that you think learning is important.
How?
You can be involved in your child’s learning at any time of day.
• Attend Parent Curriculum Night, Conferences, Open House, & other school events.
• Check the Parent Portal once every two weeks.
• Email your child’s teachers to see what you can do to help your child.
• Ask your child about their day, what they are studying, & to see their work. Help your child study and proof their papers.
• Provide real life examples that demonstrate the importance of time management, meeting deadlines, organization, & completing work that is thoroughly done and neat.
• Watch television, read a book together, or visit a museum.
Idea #3
Talk to your child
• Ask them about their day. Don’t accept “I don’t know” or “I don’t remember” answers.
• Have them share 5 interesting facts, events, ideas, etc. about their day
• Ask open-ended questions, not yes/no type questions.
• Share what happened in your day
• Watch the news, read the newspaper, and discuss current events
• Include your child in real life planning and problem solving situations
