Extended Day Kindergarten Program
We are excited to announce the expansion of the Extended Day Kindergarten Program! Currently we have a few openings for the morning and afternoon programs. If interested please call the school office at 847-318-5360.
Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin on April 22, 2019. Prior to registering for the Extended Day Kindergarten program you must complete the pre-enrollment process for kindergarten by going to the District 64 website (www.d64.org) and uploading your residency documents. Once your documents have been approved you will begin receiving communication from the home school, including a InfoSnap code where you can register for the EDK program.

Kindergarten 2018/2019 (pdf)
A variety of enrichment and educational activities are provided using hands on and play based learning activities. Educational activities, related to social studies and science themes, help students learn through art, music, reading, math, and drama. Students also have daily opportunities to engage in indoor and outdoor play. The program is not an extension of District 64’s kindergarten curriculum, but is taught by state certified kindergarten teachers and supported by teaching assistants. Class sizes range from 20-25 students.
The rates for the 2018-2019 school year are as follows: $24.00 per day for the morning or afternoon session. Before School Care at Jefferson is $12.00 per day. On the 15th of each month you will receive an invoice via email from the District Pay Pal account. Payment of fees is due by the 1st of each month and can be done either electronically or by mailing a check to the District office. If you have any billing questions contact Valerie Varhalia at 847-318-4322. The August invoice will be sent out soon and will include fees for August and September.
If you need duplicate (both parents) billing statements sent out, please notify the Jefferson School secretary, Kathy Luppo, at 847-318-5360. Billing adjustments will be made on a monthly basis if your child needs before school care on an additional day.

- Morning Extended Day Program - 9:00 - 12:15 (students will be bused to their home school after having lunch at Jefferson)

PICK UP and DROP OFF
Parents must personally walk their child to the EDK door (door #4) for the morning and Before School Care program. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:00 a.m. for the Before School Care program and between 8:45 - 9:00 a.m. for the morning EDK program. If you arrive after 9:00 a.m. you must enter through the main entrance (door #7) and report to the office on the opposite end of the building . A staff member will be called to pick up your child from the office. Parents may pick up their child attending the afternoon EDK program from the EDK door (door #4) between 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. Students who are registered for the Park District’s Beyond the Bell (BTB) program will be bused back to the home school for that program. If you need to pick your child up between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 you must come to the main entrance (door #7) and sign your child in or out.
To ensure students’ safety, if someone other than the parent will be picking up your child, they need to be listed on the Pick Up Approval form. Please let that person know that the first time they pick up your child they will be required to present their driver’s license before we can release your child to them.
Parking is limited on Greendale Ave, as it is shared with preschool parents and staff. To ensure student and family safety, Greendale Ave will be temporarily blocked off during the following times: 8:45 - 8:55 a.m. and 2:55 - 3:05 p.m. If you arrive prior to this time, you will be able to park on Greendale Ave. in any of the angled parking spots or along the curb in front of the bus loading zone (marked by orange cones) on the southeast end of the building. However, if you arrive after this time you will need to park north of the barricades or in the back parking lot.
District buses transport the children mid-day to/from Jefferson School and their neighborhood elementary buildings. Transportation costs are included in the daily fee and are automatically arranged at time of EDK registration.
If your child will be absent you must call Jefferson School in addition to your child’s home school. Absences from the EDK program can be reported by calling 847-318-5360 ext. 4 or 847-318-4212. Parents are charged for days when students are absent.
Inside and outside temperatures fluctuate throughout the day and/or year and students may have accidents, therefore, please send your child with an extra set of shorts/pants, shirt, and underwear (write name on all clothing so it can be easily identifiable). In the fall, please also send a sweatshirt/sweater. To minimize the amount of winter clothing your child has to keep track of and potentially lose, please send a complete set of winter clothing when the weather turns cold, including snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves/mittens.
DAYS OF OPERATIONS
The Extended Day Kindergarten program follows the District 64 school calendar. Therefore will not operate on the following days: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Spring Break, Good Friday, Memorial Day, staff development days, and record days.
The Park Ridge Park District provides programs for elementary age students on days when the schools are closed. Information and registration is available at www.prparks.org.
LUNCH AND SNACKS
Both morning and afternoon students eat lunch and have a snack break at Jefferson School. Students must bring their own lunch and snack, including a drink. Please do not send soda/pop or foods that need to be microwaved or refrigerated.
Please let us know if your child has any allergies or chronic medical conditions. If he/she requires prescription medications at school a prescription from the doctor is required. The district nurse will inform the EDK staff of any medical needs that were indicated in the kindergarten registration process. For everyone’s safety, including your child’s, please do not send your child to school if he/she is not well. If your child has any activity restrictions at school they will also apply at Jefferson School.
A District 64 nurse is on-call during school hours for children who become seriously ill or require more than routine first aid. Our health assistant will attend to students with routine first aid needs. Parents will be notified immediately if their child sustains an injury while at Jefferson.
