The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) has awarded the District 64 Board of Education the 2026 School Board Governance Recognition. D64 is one of just 53 school boards across the state to earn this two-year distinction.
This statewide designation honors board teams that demonstrate exemplary local school governance and a strong commitment to public education. Grounded in the IASB Foundational Principles of Effective Governance, the award recognizes full board development, continuous learning, and effective district oversight.
"We're honored by this recognition from the IASB,” said Board President Matt Doubleday. “The District is served by an amazing team of teachers, staff, administrators, and Board members who all keep the focus on our children and community. This award exemplifies the unified focus and shared purpose that brings our entire D64 community together."
Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins echoed that sentiment. “This recognition reflects our Board’s commitment to prioritizing our students and empowering the teachers and staff who support them,” Dr. Collins said. “Their steady focus on our Strategic Plan and major construction projects keeps our district moving forward.”
Dr. Collins highlighted the Board’s collaborative spirit and dedicated approach, praising their steadfast commitment to governance and ongoing service to our schools.
"We are fortunate to work alongside board members who bring such care and dedication to everything they do for our schools," Dr. Collins added. "I am thrilled to see their hard work recognized at the state level."
The D64 School Board will formally accept the award at IASB Fall Division Meetings. The celebration will feature two key highlights for D64:
- On October 7th, Board members will receive their official plaque, date tabs, and member pins during the North Cook dinner at Glenbrook High School.
- Board Member Monica Milligan will also lead a presentation on AI at the event.
