Lincoln 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Lincoln 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Nearly 250 Lincoln 8th graders walked across the stage on Wednesday at Maine South High School, taking that next step towards high school and celebrating all that was accomplished during their time in District 64.

“As we leave this chapter behind and step into the next, let’s do so knowing that we have the power to overcome any obstacle that comes our way. We are closing this chapter and the best is yet to come,” said Lincoln 8th grader Brooke Freedman addressing the crowd and her peers at the promotion ceremony.

“Throughout our experience and time at Lincoln, it’s safe to say that we have memories that will last us a lifetime,” said Lincoln 8th grader Hannah Drone. “I would like to thank all of our teachers, all of the staff members, my classmates, and friends for making the three years at Lincoln so amazing and meaningful.”

Lincoln also presented its James Blouch “Emotional Intelligence Award” and Judith L. Snow “Ethical Leadership Award.”

The James Blouch Award was presented to Brooke Freedman and Madeline Welke. The James Blouch Award recognizes students who have displayed the skills of emotional intelligence during their years at Lincoln. The winners will have demonstrated being self-confident and motivated, knowing what behaviors are expected of them, curbing impulses to misbehave, being able to wait, following directions, knowing how to ask for help, expressing needs and getting along with others by demonstrating a caring attitude through their daily actions.

The Judith L. Snow Award was presented to Fernanda Trujillo and Logan Hinton. The Judith L. Snow Award is presented annually to two eighth-grade students at each middle school who demonstrate ethical leadership. Ethical leadership is defined as knowing your core values and having the courage to live by them in all parts of your life in service to the common good. It aligns your internal beliefs and values with your external behaviors and values for the purpose of advancing the common good. Ethical leaders are principled and lead with integrity, selflessness, dependability, caring, and fairness.

Congratulations to the Lincoln Class of 2023 for an unforgettable time in District 64. Good luck in high school next year!

Thank you to everyone for helping us celebrate these incredible students!
