Over the weekend, music lovers were treated to a great performance and some special guests. Washington, Roosevelt, Lincoln, and Maine South bands performed at the 5th-12th grade progress concert on February 29th.
We kept Dr. Collins busy as he revisited his instrumental music roots by playing drum set on the We Will Rock You orchestra finale and xylophone with the Lincoln Symphonic Band. Lincoln band director Mrs. Hutter had a costume change and came out as Taylor Swift and The Emerson Symphonic Band “Rick-rolled” the audience.
Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins joined as a guest artist and played the drums with the Lincoln Band.
These musical extravaganzas were not just performances; they celebrated the progress these young musicians had made over the course of their journey through the instrumental music program. The annual Progress Concerts highlight the impact of a well-rounded music education program, emphasizing not only technical skills but also the development of creativity, discipline, and teamwork. The high school performers served as inspirations for the younger musicians, illustrating the potential for growth and excellence with continued commitment to their craft.
"Great performances were had by all groups, and we are so proud of everyone’s dedication, support, and hard work," said Erica Faulhaber, Curriculum Specialist for Instrumental Music. "The concert was a testament to the importance of fostering a love for music and providing students with the tools they need to flourish as both musicians and individuals.
The Lincoln/Roosevelt/Washington Orchestra concert took place on January 23, the Emerson/Field/Franklin/Carpenter Orchestra concert took place on February 1, the Emerson/Field/Franklin/Carpenter Band concert took place on February 28 and the Lincoln/Roosevelt/Washington Band concert took place on February 29. All of these performances were held at Maine South High School.
