Narwhals Walk for H2O
Every day, one billion people make the long journey to gather water! The Narwhal’s are hoping to help change that sad statistic one school at a time. The Narwhal Core is a partner this year with Khumbulani Primary School in South Africa. We hope to raise funds to help them build and maintain water & sanitation projects at their school. Our goal is to raise $2,250.
Narwhal students are going to hold a “Bucket Walk” to raise funds. Students will collect pledges for walking great distances and carrying water like their peers in developing nations. This money is then donated to our partner school through the H2O for Life organization. The “Bucket Walk” will be held on Thursday, May 24th from 12:00-2:30 around the Emerson Athletic Fields.

Emerson Team Collecting Books
Starting Monday, the 14th of May, the Jellyfish Core (Russell/Zur) will be conducting a book drive for their service learning project. The books collected will be donated to, Open Books, a non-for-profit book store, downtown Chicago, that educates (for free) the almost 40% illiterate children & adults in our own hometown. We are very excited about it and we hope to collect as many books as we can. Any books you may have please bring them to room 111 or drop them off in the main office.
8th Grade Walk-a-thon
Also on April 27th, our 8th grade students participated in a walk-a-thon to raise money for breast cancer research. They set a goal of raising $2,000 and we are thrilled that they over doubled their expectations. The final total amounted to over $5000! Way to go 8th graders! Read the featured news story here.

Emerson Provides Lunches
On Tuesday, April 19, over 350 bag lunches were collected to support the efforts of “Uncle Pete Lunches”. The Uncle Pete Lunches program collects bag lunches and distributes them to the Chicagoland poor. This event was coordinated through the FOR (Friends of Rachel) club. It was a great showing for Emerson Middle School and a very worthwhile task for the Rachel's Challenge program.
Emerson is a recipient of the Illinois Schools to Watch award.
