Important Things to Remember at Emerson

ATTENDANCE:
A parent or guardian must call in a child’s absence on or before 8:00 a.m. of the day the child will be absent.  A voice mail message may be left between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. prior to the day the student will be absent.

If a student needs to leave the school before the end of the day, a parent note giving the reason, date and time of departure should be given to the teacher whose class the student is leaving.  The student should report to the office at the time of departure. The parent or guardian must come into the office to sign out the student for the length of time the student will be away from school.

EARLY ENTRY INTO THE BUILDING
Instrumental music students do not need passes to enter the building before 7:35 a.m.  All other students may not enter the building prior to 7:35 a.m. unless they have a teacher-signed pass.  Before 7:35 a.m. students with passes should come through the office.  Students who wish to enter the building between 7:35 and 8:00 a.m. need a dated note written by a parent stating specifically to which teacher the student is going or a pass from a teacher.

MESSAGES TO STUDENTS:
Because we value and protect class time, only emergency messages can be given to students during the school day.  PLEASE MAKE PICK UP ARRANGEMENTS IN ADVANCE.  If a student forgets his or her lunch, instrument or books, items can be dropped off at the office.  Students may stop by the office to check whether these items were brought in.  They will not be called to the office during school hours.

ACTIVITY BUS:
The after school activity bus begins Thursday, September 7th.  All students may ride the bus, but a pass is required.  Students who ride the morning/after school bus may use that pass to ride the activity bus.  All other students have been issued an activity bus pass.  Students may use this transportation to get home, to a friend’s house or go to any destination where the buses stop.

DOOR ASSIGNMENTS
Remember that the door assignments for entry in school are as follows for 6th and 7th Graders:

6th graders us the Oakton Avenue door.
7th Grade

8th Grade use the west door off the parking lot.

PAY PHONES:
Two pay phones are available for student use.  Located outside of the office and next to the gym.  The fee is $.50, and they also work for collect calls.  Students should not page their parents to those phones.
