A team of two students and two teachers from Carpenter School are among the 98 school teams from throughout Illinois selected to participate at the Tech 2017 event on Tuesday, May 9 at the State Capitol Building in Springfield.
Tech 2017 is a technology in education showcase at which students and teachers share their learning with the public, state legislators, and business leaders. The students have mailed informational letters inviting State Sen. Laura Murphy and State Rep. Marty Moylan to visit them at their exhibit.
Carpenter teachers Pam Johnson (Grades 3 and 4 Channels of Challenge math teacher) and Kevin Michael (Instructional Technology Coach) will accompany grade 3 students (RIGHT) Charlie Warner and Audrey Becker to share their STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and inquiry-based learning projects, “Gravity Racers” and “Take Flight.”
"Gravity Racers" challenged the students to design, build, test, modify and retest a vehicle that rolls on wheels powered only by the force of gravity. "Take Flight" was a similar challenge, but it required the creation of a flying vehicle as well as more in-depth use of the research and design processes.
District 64 last was selected to participate in 2013, when a team of students and teachers from Lincoln Middle School attended the event.
