Comprised of 60 singers from Emerson and Lincoln middle schools, District 64's Honors Choir showcased its vocal skills and received a Superior Rating at the recent Music in the Parks Festival hosted in Gurnee, IL. Groups from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa participated in the annual competition.
The chorus was evaluated for its vocal skills, intonation, and musicality.
Recognized as leaders in choral music, the judges spoke highly of the young District 64 singers. Christopher Owen, professor of choral music at Northeastern Illinois University, commented that the tonal quality produced by the singers was some of the most beautiful singing he had heard in months.
District 64 directors Tami Nardi, Michael Kennedy, and Terry Broeker prepared the choruses over the past seven months to be ready for the judges.
“Our singers did a great job performing and are so excited about our Superior rating,” stated Mrs. Broeker. Mrs. Nardi added: “We couldn’t have done it without all the support from parents, teachers, and administration.”
