Young Authors winners selected for 2017

The District-level winners of this annual creative writing competition have been selected from a pool of outstanding school winners at every grade level. Students wrote and illustrated an original story independently at home.

The 2017 outstanding Young Authors were celebrated at the Board of Education meeting on May 22.

Young Authors winners

They are:

  • Kindergarten: Aria Fioravanti, Franklin School (first row, far right)
  • 1st Grade: Jake Thurman, Washington School (first row, third from left)
  • 2nd Grade: Margo Baum, Field School (first row, second from left)
  • 3rd Grade: Ola Nawrocki, Carpenter School (first row, left)
  • 4th Grade: Makayla Waters, Roosevelt School (second row, left)
  • 5th Grade: Devyn Hoffman, Washington School (second row, far right)
  • 6th Grade:  Colette Gordon (author) and Angela Lee (illustrator), Emerson Middle School (second row - third and second from left, respectively)
  • 7th Grade: Alex McNeilly, Lincoln Middle School (not pictured)
  • 8th Grade: Megan McCarron, Lincoln Middle School (not pictured)

District 64 Young Author winners were also eligible to attend the Illinois Statewide Young Author’s Conference on May 20, 2017. Six of our ten winners registered to attend.
