Field Elementary School's Jessica Ross gets to go on "once-in-a-lifetime" expedition

Field ITC Jessica Ross selected for Galapagos expedition

The Galapagos Islands are home to plants and animals that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Wouldn’t it be cool to explore the iconic islands and see a Galapagos Penguin or Darwin Finch?! Well, Field Elementary School Instructional Technology Coach Jessica Ross was selected to go on an expedition to those very Galapagos Islands!

Ross was one of only 50 educators from across the United States and Canada selected for the Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship with Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society.

“I am honored to be chosen for this professional development opportunity that will allow me to bring geographic awareness to the K-5 students at Field Elementary School, as well as to our District as a whole,” said Ross.

What is the Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship (GTF)? According to National Geographic, it provides field-based experiences.

  • “The fellowship recognizes exemplary educators for their commitment to geographic education, and gives them an opportunity to actively find new ways to bring geographic awareness to their classrooms or informal learning environments through a field-based experience, leadership training, and community-building opportunities.”

The primary goal of the Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship is to advance geographic competency.

“I am excited to translate my experience into exciting learning opportunities,” said Ross. “Such as virtual tours, interviews with specialists, and more for my students, colleagues, and community. “

“My passion and love for teaching has brought me to this moment, and I am incredibly grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Ross.

We can’t wait to see what Ross finds in the Galapagos Islands!
