Second Grade Book Tasting

Mrs. Weil and Mrs. Cahill’s Book Tasting.

Today, our second graders participated in a book tasting in their second grade class.  The students were introduced to variety of new books to sample. They read quietly the first chapter or so and were able to fill out a questionnaire about their book.  They were asked if the cover was eye catching, did the description and the first pages make me want to learn more about the book, have they read other books by this author, is this book a part of a series, does this book look like it will keep my attention, and if they want to check this book out to read.  The students were then able to rotate around their table to sample other books as well. This was a great way to incorporate students interests in their reading lessons. As a Units of Study pilot classroom the teachers have provided a warm environment that encourages students love of reading. What a great opportunities for our kiddos.
