Washington Students collected 106 Jared Boxes for a Great Cause

The Washington School Student Council collected 106 boxes for the Jared Box Project.

Jared was a brave little boy who battled cancer with courage and faith. He had a great sense of humor and loved to play. Jared carried a backpack full of toys and games to all of his appointments and always wondered why the other children didn't bring toys to their exam rooms.

Jared passed away in 2000, at the age of 5, but his memory lives on with the Jared Box Project.  Jared Boxes are filled with games and toys and are given to children who are very sick in the hospital.

Washington School will be collected items to fill Jared Boxes.  Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students collected items for the 4-8 year age group, such as Silly Putty, Play-Doh, paints, books, art supplies, bubbles, card games, puzzles, travel-size board games, plastic animals, toy cars, dress-up toys, stuffed animals, and stickers.

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students brought items for the 8-11 year age group, such as card games, paints, Silly Putty, calculators, gel pens, yo-yo’s, craft kits, brainteasers, books, art supplies, travel-size games, word search puzzles, and small toys.

The Jared Boxes were dropped off at Lutheran General Children’s Hospital today. Thank you to all of our students and families for creating these boxes that will make so many children happy this holiday season.
