Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss/  Read Across America Day

By Shari Lazor- Assistant Principal

On Wednesday, March 2nd Washington students celebrated Dr.Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day. Our students had the opportunity to read many favorites from Dr. Seuss. In Kindergarten they read books all day and made Cat in the Hat pictures with rhyming words written on every strip of the hats. Students in first grade combined our 120th day of school celebration along with Dr. Seuss’ birthday and made crazy hats. In third grade students read The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins and discussed how the same character is in Bartholomew Cubbins and the Ooblek  which they were able to connect to their science unit on Matter.  Our fourth grade tech club members recorded themselves reading a variety of Dr. Seuss books for the Kindergarteners to use during listening stations around the library. Students in our literacy classes were also exposed to a variety of Dr. Seuss books.  We had a great time  celebrating a wonderful author, what better way to do that then reading the day away.
