D64 announces changes to summer programs

District 64 announced Monday it is canceling its World of Wonders (WOW) summer school program and moving its Extended School Year (ESY) program online with a modified timeframe. The district is still considering holding some (virtual) intervention classes.

This decision was made in consideration of the health and safety of all students and staff.

Information regarding dates and times of the ESY program will be shared soon. ESY is designed for students who receive Special Education services. The district sent a registration document to parents of students who have been recommended for ESY.

The Worlds of Wonder programs would have offered enrichment classes to children from preKindergarten to grade 7. Parents who have registered their children for WOW programs will automatically receive a tuition refund.

The district is currently exploring the possibility of offering some intervention classes remotely. These classes include Reading is Fundamental, Ready-Set-Go!, Basic Skills Math, Basic Skills LA, Math Lab, and WOW Math. These classes are for students who were receiving intervention or support prior to school closures.

The final decision on intervention classes will be based on available staffing. The district will soon provide information to parents of children currently registered for one of these classes so they can decide whether to continue or request a tuition refund.
