At the September 18 Regular BOE Meeting, Emerson Middle School celebrated two individuals who truly embody the D64 motto: student Zainab Hakeem and PE teacher Emmy Pasier.
Zainab, a seventh grader, was recognized for her quiet leadership and genuine kindness. Emerson Principal Tessa Shulman praised Zainab’s “kindness, inclusivity, and passion,” noting she makes a meaningful difference in the Emerson school community.
Students in the Life Skills program described Zainab as someone who makes them “feel important and seen.” Shulman concluded, “We thank you for being such a wonderful Eagle, and we appreciate you.”
Also honored was teacher Emmy Pasier for her unwavering dedication. Shulman shared that “over the years, she has gone above and beyond by serving on numerous committees, coaching and mentoring colleagues and students, and continuing to step up for our school community.”
“She truly embodies our District’s motto of together we discover, learn, grow, and care,” said Shulman. “We are grateful for her continued leadership and service. Emerson is lucky to have you, Emmy. Thank you for all you do.”
Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins also spoke about Pasier's dedication, recalling that he has known her for nine years. He highlighted her commitment to students as both a girls varsity softball and basketball coach at Maine South. "The amount of time you have put into the community, for all of the students here, is unmatched," said Dr. Collins.
“When we talk about someone who’s moving the culture towards that positive end, you are it,” said Dr. Collins. “You are the standard.”
Congrats to Zainab and Emmy, and thank you for being such great examples in D64!
