D64 Shining Stars 2026: Field's Charlie Meachem and John Imber

At the February Board of Education meeting, we celebrated two individuals from Field Elementary School who are great examples of the District 64 mission. Congratulations to Field student Charlie Meachem and Head Custodian John Imber!

Field Assistant Principal Christa Donnelly introduced Charlie, reflecting on his remarkable growth over the years. “It has truly been a gift to watch Charlie grow up through his years at Field. At every age and stage, he has been an absolute standout student,” said Donnelly.

She also noted that his kindness and ability to make others feel seen and appreciated has only blossomed, starting from offering a smile and a silent greeting in the hallway as a kindergartner to adding genuine compliments as he grew older. His peers and teachers recognize that he’s “someone who can always be counted on to do the right thing, to stand up for others, to follow directions and to be a friend and role model,” said Donnelly.

As a school safety patrol member, he goes above and beyond to support the youngest learners at the start and end of every day, demonstrating what it means to show "Field CARES" through his daily encouragement and kindness. "Emerson will be lucky to have Charlie as a new Emerson Eagle next year."

We also honored Head Custodian John Imber, a staff member whose impact is felt in "every single nook and cranny" of the school. Field Principal Dr. Courtney Goodman praised his monumental four decades of service to District 64, "They say that some people are the heart of a building, but after over 40 years... it's safe to say that John Imber is the heart, the soul, and the very foundation of Field Elementary School". Staff unequivocally call him the hardest worker in the building and affectionately refer to him as their very own MacGyver because, from leaky faucets to squeaky doors, he can fix anything.

Beyond his daily duties of keeping the school sparkling clean, John is deeply dedicated to serving and mentoring others. He takes the time to train fellow custodians and shares his vast knowledge so they can learn to lead their own buildings. Dr. Goodman described him as the "patriarch of Field School," highlighting his quick wit, loyalty, and protective nature. "He's a man of his word, a dedicated friend to his co-workers, and a wise counselor if you need advice on life or work or just being a good human," she shared, adding that he will always be an essential pillar of their community.

Congratulations to Charlie Meachem and John Imber for being truly shining examples of the Field and D64 community!
