Young Authors winners captivate readers' imaginations

The competition was extraordinary this year, with almost 275 stories submitted in this extracurricular opportunity for District 64's budding authors.

Selected from among the finalists at each school, this year's District-wide winners include: Kindergarten - Graham Powers (Washington School), The Robot; Grade 1 - Sean Lynch (Roosevelt School), The Food Argument; Grade 2 - Henry Moriss (Franklin School), My Maker Mobile Adventure; Grade 3 -  Nina Kulas and Elizabeth Drakontaidis (Field School), The Steeler; Grade 4 - Evan Sauer (Field School), Gorilla; Grade 5 - Maren Nazar (Carpenter School), Soar; Grade 6 - Maria Marcucci and Nia Georgiopoulos (Emerson Middle School), Reunited; Grade 7 - Francesca Starecheski (Lincoln Middle School), Only Mine; and Grade 8 -  Grace Anelli (Lincoln Middle School), The Visitor.

Young Author winners will be officially recognized at the May 23 Board of Education meeting, and are invited to attend the 42nd Illinois Young Authors’ Conference.
