D64 staff join together at first "all hands" volunteer event

D64 staff and family members joined Superintendent Laurie Heinz for a new, D64-wide volunteer opportunity over winter recess at Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg.

In all, 91 volunteers on the afternoon shift prepared 117 boxes of food packets equating to 25,272 meals, which will help feed 70 kids for a year! The food prepared by D64's enthusiastic crew will be sent to Sierra Leone and Zambia.

"I'm very proud of the strong turnout for this activity over our winter recess, which speaks volumes about the commitment of our staff members to contribute to our global community," according to Dr. Heinz.

"Many of our staff came with children, spouses, extended family members and friends visiting over break, too!" she added.

D64 students regularly participate in field trips to volunteer at the charity as part of their service learning, but this was the first time an "all hands" call was arranged for the entire D64 employee community.

Together We Discover, Learn, Grow & Care

At D64, our mission is to foster opportunities for discovery, engagement, and growth for all students. We accomplish this by nurturing interdependence, appreciation of differences, and care for self and others.
