ST. BALDRICK'S EMERSON-LINCOLN SITE

UPDATE March 4, 2019 - We are already at QUARTER-MILLION DOLLARS with Shave Day still 2+ weeks ahead! Way to go students, staff, families and our community supporters!

The 2019 St. Baldrick's effort at School District 64 is "Bigger, Bolder, Balder than Ever!"

This year's drive is bigger than ever, because our middle school students from Lincoln and Emerson are, literally, putting their heads together to conduct a joint fundraiser for St. Baldrick's benefiting childhood cancer research. That means more than 1,600 students combined will be engaged in the 2019 drive with the support of teachers and staff at both schools along with their families. Community members are invited to support the cause, too!

This year's drive also is bolder than ever, having set an impressive goal of raising $175,000 for the joint campaign. Donations are being collected for this combined effort at: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/6582/2019. This is Emerson's first year conducting a St. Baldrick's shave event. Lincoln has participated three times previously, the last in 2016. Lincoln's combined previous total is more than a quarter-million dollars raised!

And come "shave day" on Tuesday, March 19, it will be balder than ever, as an unprecedented number of students and staff line up to have their heads shaved for the cause. This year, students also may participate by opting to donate eight inches of hair to a separate charity, Children with Hair Loss, too.

The effort kicked off at simultaneous pep rallies at both Emerson and Lincoln on Thursday afternoon, February 7. Students now will have an opportunity to sign on to become shavees or to volunteer to collect donations. A variety of activities are being planned at the schools in coming weeks, such as selling wristbands and other smaller scale activities, to build the momentum leading up to Shave Day 2019.
