Lincoln Middle School celebrated the promotion of 273 eighth-grade students at Maine East this week. The ceremony marked the culmination of their middle school journey and the start of an exciting new chapter.
“Congratulations to our 8th Grade students for getting to this point. The Class of 2025, we are excited to celebrate you,” said Lincoln Principal Dave Szwed.
The student welcome was delivered by Lincoln 8th Grader Nicholas Malling, who reflected on the transformation of the Class of 2025. “It’s hard to believe that three years ago we were walking through the 6th-grade doors without a clue as to what to expect. Wondering and worrying about our locker codes, our new teachers, and new classes, but now all these things come as second nature to us,” said Malling.
“Even though today is the end of our years here at Lincoln, that doesn’t mean that today is about our goodbyes. Today is a day to celebrate our accomplishments and open our arms to the future. Every single one of us has worked so hard to get this far, and I know we’re all ready for what comes next,” said Malling.
During the ceremony, outstanding students were honored with special awards:
- The Judith L. Snow Ethical Leadership Award was presented to Owen Hanba and Lucy Harris.
- The James Blouch Emotional Intelligence Award was presented to Matteo Bernabei and Audrey Bielenda.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Principal Szwed expressed his gratitude and best wishes to the Class of 2025. “I would like to thank our graduates for being positive role models for the entire Lincoln student body. You are leaving Lincoln with numerous achievements, many friendships, and fond memories. I want to wish you the best of luck in high school.”
