Congratulations to Lincoln Middle School's Abigail Matza for winning the District 64 Spelling Bee. The competition was fierce, lasting longer than any previous District Bee.

By Round 26, the Bee moved into the "3-D Section" of the word list, which is the most difficult section in the book! The final rounds turned into a duel with words like narcoleptic, besmirch, Caracas, hydrophobia, cryptic, and perceptible.

We're so proud of these scholars for finishing in the top three:

  • 1st Place: Abigail Matza (Lincoln)
  • 2nd Place: Sarah Kurian (Emerson)
  • 3rd Place: Mason Smith (Field)

The championship moment featured Abigail and Sarah going back and forth. Abigail snagged gold by correctly spelling "acetone." As the winner, Abigail will move on and represent District 64 at the North Cook Spelling Bee later this month.

Congrats to the 21 school winners for advancing to this final competition from the nearly 200 total students who participated.
