Excellence Recognized: D64 Staff receive top state honors in 2026 Those Who Excel Awards

Jenny Kapustka, Quinn Galindo, Angela Pontikis win Those Who Excel Awards

Dear D64 Community,

Our dedicated staff consistently work behind the scenes without seeking recognition, so it's truly thrilling to see their hard work celebrated at the state level. I'm excited to share that the Illinois State Board of Education has awarded three D64 staff members with the prestigious 2026 Those Who Excel Awards!

Congratulations to this year’s winners:

  • Jenny Kapustka - Music Teacher, Field Elementary School
    • Award of Excellence
  • Angela Pontikis - SLC Teacher, Washington Elementary School
    • Award of Meritorious Service
  • Quinn Galindo - Psychologist, Field Elementary School
    • Award of Special Recognition

To receive the Award of Excellence, the highest TWE honor, educators must demonstrate a deep commitment to the success of all students and inspire other professionals within and beyond their schools. The Award of Meritorious Service and Award of Special Recognition honor those who have gone above and beyond to uplift their school culture and are valued for the unique skills and passions they bring to our community.

Please join me in congratulating Jenny, Quinn, and Angela on this well-deserved achievement!

Sincerely,

Dr. Ben Collins
Superintendent
