Over 200 writers submitted stories this year. Winners from across the district were honored, and seven will attend the statewide Young Authors Conference in Tinley Park on April 25.

We had three educators honored at the state-level banquet in Bloomington.
- Quinn Galindo (Psychologist, Field): Award of Special Recognition
- Jenny Kapustka (Music Teacher, Field): Award of Excellence
- Angela Pontikis (SLC Teacher, Washington): Award of Meritorious Service.
Educator Appreciation Week
Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins expressed immense pride in the District 64 staff, noting that the collective efforts of teachers, librarians, custodians, and bus drivers are vital to student success. Highlighting the importance of the upcoming Educator Appreciation Week, he said, "It takes everybody to get the kids through their day, and so we’re just very, very, very proud of the work that our staff does every day."
Board Committee Reports: Policy Committee
PRESS Issue 121
The committee recommended adopting all suggested updates from the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) PRESS Issue 121.
Student Handbook Revisions
Minor updates were proposed. Including adding the employee code of conduct and being clear that if a student is absent from school due to illness or is sent home ill, they are not permitted to attend or participate in any school-sponsored extracurricular events or practices held later that same day. Also added were new descriptions for the Multilingual Program and additional information regarding ParentSquare. View the Student-Parent Handbook for 2026-27.
